Hong Kong Dhammakaya Temple
Build excellent places of practice, cultivate an excellent monastic community, and nurture good people.
About Us
The history of Dhammakaya Temple dates back to B.E. 2513 (1970). Under the guidance of Master Nun Khun Yai Chand, Luang Por Dhammajayo and disciples worked together to fulfill the aspiration to build an excellent temple, cultivate excellent monks, and nurture good people. From barren land, they built what is now Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Thailand, one of the world’s largest Buddhist temples and a place where practitioners seek inner peace and wisdom.
The Hong Kong branch shares the Buddha-Dhamma and the wisdom of inner peace in a busy modern city. Through meditation and mindfulness, we believe each person can find inner balance and help bring peace to family and society.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create a place of learning and practice where wisdom and compassion grow together. Devotees can study the Dhamma, practice meditation, improve themselves, and serve society. Through activities and courses, we help people cultivate wholesome views and actions that support social harmony and progress.
Practice and education are central to inner development. The temple provides meditation courses and Dhamma education so that people can find support whether they are facing life’s challenges or seeking spiritual growth.
Our Vision
We aspire to be an excellent center of Dhamma practice, cultivating a strong monastic community and kind-hearted devotees who serve with dedication. Our mission is to build an excellent temple, cultivate excellent monks, and nurture good people. Through meditation and practice, we hope to share the wisdom of the Dhamma with the world and support peace and development in society.
The Dhammakaya tradition traces back to Phramongkolthepmuni (1884-1959), who attained the Dhammakaya through lifelong practice, rediscovered this meditation method, and passed it on to Master Nun Khun Yai Chand for worldwide propagation.
Bringing the Buddha-Dhamma to the World
Luang Por Dhammajayo inherited the great aspiration of the masters to share the Buddha’s teachings throughout the world. Guided by the principle “avoid all evil, cultivate all good, and purify the mind,” he teaches people to purify body, speech, and mind, reduce suffering, and live with happiness and blessings on the path toward liberation.
Today, Wat Phra Dhammakaya and the Dhammakaya Foundation have 221 centers worldwide: 119 in Thailand, 20 in North America, 10 in Oceania, 31 in Europe and the Middle East, and 41 in Asia and Africa.
“Happiness Comes From a Peaceful Mind”
In busy daily life, many people forget how to care for their own mind. If we want to take good care of the mind, we need the right method. Meditation is the best answer.
